The hunting law determines a hunting period for each specie of game animals. The hunting calendar for game animals was created to ensure protection of animals, to counteract poaching and decreasing the population of wild animals in Poland.

After changes as of August 1st, 2017:

1. Hunting period for game animals:

Muskrat from August 11th until April 15th, on fishing areas of breeding
districts – whole year
European hare and wild rabbitfrom November 1st until December 31st, by harvesting

voivodeships: zachodniopomorskie, lubuskie, wielkopolskie and

Greylag goosefrom September 1st until December 21st,  on areas of
voivodeships: zachodniopomorskie, lubuskie, wielkopolskie and
dolnoslaskie – until January 15th
Eurasian coot from August 15th until December 21st
Wood pigeonfrom August 15th until November 30th
Woodcockfrom September 1st until December 21st
Hazel grouse from September 1st until November 30th
Golden jackalfrom August 1st until the end of February, on areas of hunting districts where there is wood grouse or black grouse
or where during last 2 calendar years before the day of
acceptance of the year hunting schedule for next year settlements of hares, pheasants or partridges were done – whole year
(valid since 1.03.2019)

2. If the beginning of the hunting period is immediately after a non-working day or days, the hunting period starts on the first non-working day.

3. If the end of the hunting period falls on a day before a holiday, the period ends on the last non-working day.

4. When determining the hunting period, it is assumed that a non-working day is Sunday and holidays specified in separate regulations concerning non-working days and Saturdays.
